The eligible population of adult education served under WIOA Title II are adults who:
are at least 16 years of age
are not enrolled or required to be enrolled in secondary school under state law
need improvement in essential skills
do not have a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent level of education or are English language learners
ICCB AEL-funded programs are prohibited from serving au pairs in adult education classes. These students do not qualify for adult education classes because:
Au pairs are required to take post-secondary classes since they are high school graduates. Adult education classes are not post-secondary, nor can they grant academic credit.
Au pairs are here under J-1- Cultural Exchange visa and persons with that status do not qualify for adult education classes.
However, it is appropriate to use adult education funds to serve students with the following types of visas:
Temporary worker (H 1-4)
Spouses of U.S. citizens (K-3)
Individuals who have green cards (legal entries)
Learn English: English Language Acquisition Courses
Our English Language Acquisition program supports students in developing the language skills needed to succeed academically, professionally, and in everyday life. Designed for individuals whose first language is not English, the program focuses on building confidence and proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Courses are offered at multiple levels to meet students where they are in their learning journey—from foundational English skills to more advanced language development. Instruction emphasizes practical communication, grammar, vocabulary development, and real-world application of English.
Students in the program benefit from supportive instructors, engaging classroom environments, and opportunities to practice English in meaningful ways. Whether students are preparing for employment, transitioning into college programs, or simply seeking to improve their English for daily interactions, the English Language Acquisition program provides the tools and guidance needed to achieve their goals.
Classes may include:
ESL Level Courses focused on grammar, reading, writing, and language structure
English Conversation Courses designed to build confidence in speaking and listening
Integrated learning opportunities that help students prepare for further education or career pathways
Our goal is to empower students with the language skills and confidence needed to fully participate in their communities and pursue future educational and career opportunities.
Earn a High School Diploma: GED© Preparation courses in English and Spanish
Our GED® Preparation program helps students build the knowledge and skills needed to successfully pass the GED® exam and earn a High School Diploma. Classes are designed for adults who want to complete their high school education and take the next step toward college, career training, or improved employment opportunities.
Courses focus on the four subject areas of the GED© exam: Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Students receive structured instruction, practice testing, and guidance from experienced instructors who support them throughout the preparation process.
GED© Preparation courses are offered in both English and Spanish, allowing students to learn in the language that best supports their success. Our program emphasizes academic skill development, test-taking strategies, and confidence building to help students reach their educational goals.
Earning a GED© can open the door to college programs, career pathways, and new opportunities for personal and professional growth.
