Project CARE

Free adult tutoring in reading, writing, math, and English language learning!

Project CARE connects trained volunteer tutors with adults who want to strengthen their skills in reading, writing, math, or English. Through one-to-one tutoring, the program helps adult learners build confidence, reach personal goals, and take meaningful steps forward in school, work, and daily life.

Founded in 1986, Project CARE has served the community for decades by matching trained volunteers with adult learners who are ready to grow. Services are free, and enrollment in adult education classes at Morton College is not required to request a tutor.

Tutoring takes place on the Morton College campus and at approved community locations, including local libraries.

Become a Volunteer Tutor

Project CARE is always looking for caring, dependable volunteers who want to make a real difference in someone’s life.

Volunteer tutors work one-to-one with adult learners and provide encouragement, consistency, and support as learners build important skills. You do not need to be a teacher to become a tutor. Project CARE provides training and guidance to help volunteers feel prepared and supported.

Volunteering with Project CARE is a meaningful way to give back to the community while helping another adult move toward their goals. Tutors have the opportunity to:

  • Build meaningful one-to-one connections

  • Support adult learners in a direct and personal way

  • Gain valuable experience in education, mentoring, and community service

  • Strengthen communication and leadership skills

  • Make a lasting impact in the community

For many volunteers, tutoring is not only rewarding, but genuinely inspiring. Small steps can lead to big changes, and tutors get to be part of that progress.
