Real-world experience is the key to getting a job in today’s increasingly competitive global economy. There is no doubt that working within their chosen discipline before graduation will help a student’s chances of gaining full-time employment. When the Federal Government created new educational regulations stating college and universities must better prepare students for gainful employment, Morton College is trying every possible effort to help its students to land an internship or gain employment after graduation.

With more than half of Morton College students who are taking classes online, in the evening, or working part-time, some students are not able to come and use campus career placement service.  How can we reach more of our students and bring important career placement resources for all Morton students? Morton MIS department worked together with Career Planning and Placement office to get a free online resource in place. The new resource, as the Blackboard Premier Partner, Internships.com helps match students with potential companies that have internship opportunities. Internships.com building block brings students, employers and higher education together in one centralized location.

Students can do keyword searches for specific internships, search listings based on their field of interest or look for internships within a specific geographic location. Students can login to Morton College Blackboard Learn system, click on the “My Career” tab on the homepage. After signing up for the service for the first time student are then automatically logged into Internships.com each time they access Morton College Blackboard. For more information, please log into the blackboard here: https://blackboard.morton.edu

In addition to giving students the ability to search for internships, the Building Block also provides students the opportunity to build resumes and keep track of the internships for which they have applied. The Internships.com module currently has more than 81,983 internship positions from 56,573 companies located in 6,398 cities across all 50 states.

The new Building Block Internships.com has seamless integration with the Blackboard Learn platform and the installation fast and easy. MIS Blackboard Administrator just added the resource as a tab within the Blackboard Learn platform and students can easily find it once they logged into the Blackboard. Internships.com has been successful for students at other universities. It will be interesting to see how the number of Morton College students signing up and using this resources in the coming months.
