  • Morton College Ranked Among Top 10 in Digital Community Colleges Survey

Morton College was named to the Top 10 list of small community colleges by e.Republic’s Center for Digital Education’s Digital Community Colleges Survey. The school tied for 8th place, and was touted for student services including: textbook-free courses, wireless networks, online transfer fairs and proctoring. Morton College was just the second Illinois community college in the “Up to 5,000 Students” category, along with Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, to make the list.

“Technology is being used on campuses and in lecture halls to lower costs and improve student outcomes,” said Alan Cox, senior vice president at CDE. “This year’s survey indicates that community colleges are making great strides in using data to improve decisions, providing professional development to assist faculty in the use of technology, and creating robust online and mobile environments for their students. Congratulations to this year’s survey winners.”

The center is in its 10th year of conducting the survey, which analyzes how community colleges use technology to assist students, faculty, staff, and other members of the college community. As part of its announcement today, the CDE said 58 percent of the community colleges aid in student job placement through online resume-building tools, 43 percent utilize mobile devices, and 81 percent use cloud computing services, which has resulted in cost savings. All accredited U.S. community colleges are eligible to participate in the survey within three classifications based on size of enrollment. View the full list of colleges honored.
